Hunts Forum Volunteer Awards 2022

Hunts Forum Volunteer Awards were back again this year to recognise the fantastic achievements and contributions that volunteers make across the region.

On Thursday 14th July 2022, we held our annual ceremony at Hinchingbrooke Country Park and this year joined by Mrs Julie Spence OBE QPM, HM Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, who handed out the awards.

A big thank you to everyone nominated as a ‘volunteer for recognition’ this year; we were overwhelmed to receive so many deserving entries.  After much deliberation, we’re delighted to reveal the three main award winners this year, including the new Platinum award for long service, recognising someone’s continual service to an organisation.

Platinum Award

Winner – Ruth Dube, Cruse Bereavement Support – Hunts Branch

Judges Comment “This person was picked as a winner not only for their long service, but it sounds like they are a vital part of the organisation and has been involved in many different roles with the one organisation over the 35 years, where they have had a lot of impact on the organisation and the clients they support.  It sounds like it is not easy work, but they still do it as a volunteer and are very well-respected and admired for their long-standing commitment.

Rural Award

Gold – Denise Felstead – Hemingford Community

Judges CommentDenise has worked tirelessly supporting the vulnerable people in her communities throughout the pandemic. She is reliable and flexible, collecting and delivering groceries and supplies.  She will respond to any request and finds the right person to solve the problem if she cannot.  Critically, she follows up on her support and is available as a friend for as long as is needed.”

Volunteer of the Year Award

Gold – Wendy Baker – Dreamdrops Children’s Charity

Judges Comment “Wendy epitomises all that is sought in our community’s volunteers.  Over and above the care and empathy she exudes, she brings energy, vision and innovative problem solving to the challenges presented. A perfect example is how she managed and ran the ‘Laptops For Schools’ programme, particularly prevalent during the Pandemic.”
